Michel Zelnick

Michel has counseled and advised numerous public and private leadership teams and boards. His expertise in solving people problems spans twenty years of business leadership and ten years of psychological practice. He holds a current license as a psychotherapist with the California Board of Behavioral Sciences and inactive licenses in good standing with the California State Bar and California State Board of Accountancy.

His business experience is grounded in a many facets of executive management, including leading a venture capital backed software start-up as President and CEO of asterion.com in Seattle, Washington. As Chief Financial Officer and Corporate Counsel with PLSI, he built a medical services business and led the successful acquisition of the company by Unilab Corporation, Los Angeles, California. During his tenure at Unilab as Senior Vice President and Division Manager, he led the newly combined entities to solid profitability. In an earlier role with Lab Corp of America, he was Corporate Controller and Director of Financial Operations, taking this 16-division company public. As an accounting and financial executive with NAPP Systems, he worked in its London, England and San Marcos, California offices. He has also practiced as attorney with the law firm of Mulvaney, Kahan & Barry in San Diego, California, and as a Certified Public Accountant with PricewaterhouseCoopers in Montreal, Canada. Michel grew up working in his family's automobile business.

In addition to his private practice working with couples and families in La Jolla, California, Michel's clinical experience has included working as a psychotherapist with both the Departments of Psychiatry at the University of California, San Diego and at the Veterans Health Administration, San Diego.

Michel's sports psychology experience has focused primarily on performance improvement for golfers.

Michel has also advised and served on boards of several not-for-profit organizations, principally in the areas of finance, leadership, strategic planning, operations, and group facilitation.

In addition to his consulting practice, Michel is on the faculty at the San Diego University for Integrative Studies Sports Psychology Program and School of Business. He has been an instructor at the USD School of Leadership and Education, the McGill University School of Management, as well as on the faculty at Vanier College, John Abbott College, Sheridan College, and Centennial College. 

Michel has lectured and presented on the subjects of psychology, personality and psychological typing, finance and accounting, business law, leadership, corporate governance, and sports psychology.
 
Michel's education includes a Masters in Marriage and Family Therapy from the University of San Diego School of Leadership and Education Sciences, a Juris Doctor from the University of San Diego School of Law, a Masters in Public Accounting from McGill University School of Graduate Studies, and a Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting and Finance from the McGill University School of Management. He is also certified in sports psychology and is a doctoral candidate at San Diego University for Integrative Studies in Psychology, with a concentration in sports psychology.
